SEVEN YEARS

Broken mirror
good or bad
happy or sad

Take the pieces
bury them
in the moonlight

Or

Light seven candles
on the first night

That should take care
of the plight.
—-
If you want to assure
you’ve found a good cure

Throw salt over your shoulder
then your situation should be secure

for that practice blinds the devil
behind your back

naughty things he will lack
the ability to do

Leaving you
safe and sound.

FLYING FISH

Flying fish wish to escape
their predators

They take flight
to avoid a fight

They’ll never win.

They have special fins
that work like wings

Lifting them out of
the sunlight zone

Where most plants and animals
inhabit.

They can glide
quite a distance

Providing them
assistance

For their resistance
to their foes.

Who knows
how their special
gift was composed

But it comes in handy
is quite dandy

When dealing with
the reality of the ocean’s
fatality…

SOLVE THE PUZZLE

Two guest are in your heart
you can tell them apart
by what they desire.

Which will you feed?

The one who desires greed
or
The one who desires to cater
to the needs
of others.

CHAPTERS IN A BOOK

Looking back at life
like chapters in a book

I sit back in my senior years
with time to contemplate,

What seemed like the worst times
often added up to the best times

Now I have my last book
empty pages to be filled

I am thrilled to write
my last... story.

WHO ARE THE LUCKY ONES?

What looks like truth
often is not

Looking thru the keyhole
often does not tell
the full story
—-
He had it all
we had little

but

We found joy in our little
he miserable in his all
---
He stood in his Armani suit, pearly white teeth, Salvatore Ferragamo dress shoes
we in our Levis, dirty nails and tattered tennis shoes

Our hearts full
his empty

We drink tea
he whisky

We are draped in truth
he in lies

Who are the lucky ones?
---
Riches and royalty
often do not fill the soul
often they leave a big hole
that can never be filled

While

Simplicity and honesty
often fill the heart
and the soul

So once again I ask …

Who are the lucky ones?

IS IT RAPE?

I took pause when I read the assignment book my family gave me for my birthday. January 3 "Two Virgins" by John Lennon and Yoko Ono was confiscated because they posed naked for the cover. I was to write 15 words that made me uncomfortable then write a poem that also stretched my comfort zone. This is what I came up with...

There are events
few speak of,

fear it will be indecent
to mention the words
needed to explain

some types of pain
inflicted on the meek.

actions malevolent
persons seek
to inflict on others.
—-
on a cold day
in a dark place
a man of mediocre
skills inflicted his will on her.

she lay naked
helpless
faint from the horrific
event she just endured.

she staggers in to have
the semen from her vagina
preserved for future
investigation.
---
Statutory rape is beyond
understanding,

something that only happens to others
something that leaves a woman wondering
do I report this?

for to do so could be walking into
another hell
will others believe what she tells?
—-
She knew him
he was her boss
an attractive man
one she would have dated
if she had not hated him so.

alone with him in his office
he takes pause from his dictation,
stands up, steps uncomfortably close.
she feels a sensation
a desire to run
but figured she was just being dumb.

he leans down and lifts her skirt over her head.
she doesn’t remember much after that because
her mind went dead,
she was out of her body
and he was in.

after, he lowers her skirt
and walks out the door,
she felt like a whore.

Why didn’t she fight?

she just allowed it to happen
she did not even scream

she has gone in to have evidence collected
but fears reporting due to her need for employment.
---
It’s a story not unique
just one that is difficult to speak about.

yes, there are rules in place
but reality often makes women face
men that do not care about rules.

women that do not have the tools
to defend are in a bad position.

I saw many woman like this when I
had the honor of teaching self defense.

my heart was heavy each time I heard the tale
wishing I had reached them, taught them
the methods needed
to send these malevolent men to jail.

PRECIOUS FAMILY

blood that flows
thru my veins,

hard to live with
harder to live without.

worth the effort to protect
the cord,

not an easy task
like walking a tight rope.

balance is key…

can’t be all about me

planting a seed
transplanted thru generations,

harvested with great care
encore then adore
each bairn born.

It’s a miracle
some satirical
belittle the value,

let it pass by
with a big sigh.

glad I don’t know why
so precious
in my mind,

can’t find anything more
essential.

until my dying day
I will shield
the blood that flows
thru my veins.

WINTER WALK

white, ashen,charcoal berms
to the left
to the right
everywhere in sight.

little tail-wagger
pulling at it’s lead
owner nervous indeed.

hot steamy mustard stains
pains to walk around.

disregarded rides peaking out,
entries frozen shut.

mukluk, brogan, boot impressions
paint the path.

naked saplings fractured,
boskage leaning on each other
like bashed rabble.

neighbors babble
in their yards.

portico glistening with
crystal fingers tripping
my feet.

doorknob frigid
in my grasp.

SUNDAY MORNING

easy like Sunday morning
that’s my man…

no drama
dressed in laughter
that’s what I’m after

ready to walk a mile
to make me smile

heart so warm
takes away every storm

oh babe I will return
the pleasure
I’ll be your favorite treasure.

ADDRESS THIS

Given an assignment to address something with progressive lines. What a challenge!

Hate
is crippling
grabs your heart
makes it close down
brings a big huge frown
to your face and others who
are the victims of the emotion wrong
it's a feeling not needed for any reason
not for any time or for any season so
let it go do not let it grow cripple it.

BRIGHT LOVE

I’m like sunshine...

I will bring warmth and light
to your world.

Grab my beams and I will burn you!

You can’t own me
but I will be a good mate
if allowed to walk with you
not dragged by you.

Enjoy me and I will enjoy you
then life will shine on both of us.

NEW LIFE

I was given an assignment to create my dream world...

Born into a palace
with servants of every sort
a cook
a maid
a gardener
a stable hand

Her hair flowed to the ground
the color of golden straw

Lips like strawberries
sweet and luscious

The land of Contentment
was her beginnings

Ever so beautiful
ever so grand

Her father was a king
one of great valor
a heart filled with kindness

Her mother a queen
beauty unrivaled
a disposition that matched

She had one older sister
and one younger

They did not posses
the beauty of the princess
but equaled her
in character

She was a kind princess
a loving soul

It is a world beings
dream of

One inhabitants hope never
to wake up from
—-

The princess walks amongst
the commoners
with no airs

Some despise her for
her beauty but she takes no
offense

She is grateful for the
blessings she’s been
given

She listens with an open
heart but walks away
when she senses harm
will befall her

She does not judge
and will not give weight
to those who judge her

She has many friends
but has yet to meet her prince

Many have courted her
none have earned her heart

She needs a mate as tender
as she
one with romantic flare
a master of banter
of play

She knows she will meet
him some day

For it has been promised

So she lives her life as content
as her land

No need for a man

Each day
better
than the other…

IS IT POSSIBLE OR JUST A DREAM

I would love to experience
a love that is:
real
lasts thru all up’s and down’s
is gentle but firm when needed

A love that is:
friendship
and forgiveness when respect has been breached
that cares how words effect the other
where humor prevails
but not at the expense of the other

A love… that does not try to own
but to be with
one that can be taken to the grave.
