DARK SIDE OF LIFE

Why do some deny that
all are allowed to have
full feelings

Why do some try to put
others in a small box

While they live in
the head of a needle

So small is their thinking
they can't even see it
themselves

So they look at
others

and judge them

When they should
be looking at...

themselves.

GENDERS

Trying to get her boyfriend to understand her
is like trying to teach a duck to do hop scotch

He is divorce of her needs
all he sees is his wants

I don’t think it is out of cruelty
 just how he is…

He is such a man and she is such a girl
they collide.

He wears sarcasm like a second set of skin
his badge of honor is being a smart ass

She tends to be gullible and soft hearted
it is a deadly combination

Unfortunately it is killing her
and he has not a clue

She's dying.

ARTISTS

Art cleans the heart and soul. My respect for artists of every kind is unmeasurable.

ARTISTS

I think what sets artists apart
is they refuse to swallow their pain

They regurgitate it on paper
thru
writing
painting
photography

Or

become athletes
who are in fact
artists of the air

their movement
is art in motion

look at the curve of an acrobat’s back
as they do their walk overs

look at the sweat on the brow of the biker
who’s wheels spin and spin making the air dance

Or

dancers who own their bodies movement
and share emotions thru them for us
to learn their story

Freedom is obtained

Freedom from the pain in their
hearts and souls

Freedom for the observers
to escape their pain
for a few moments
while watching ...

The beauty artists provide.

DON'T QUIT

Find the joy in each day
for life is short

It's ok to have a tear
in your eye

But tell it goodbye
after a bit

Then get up
and go for it

Don't quit!

IF I COULD CHOOSE

Passion is fickle
it comes when it wants to
from who it chooses

If I could convince it
to let me
choose
what a blessing it would be

Why him
I ponder

Who is blind
to my heart

Whose words
can not be trusted

Why him
who knows not
what true love is

Who plays
dress up
like a child
in it’s back yard

If I could choose
it would be
someone like you

Who hears my words
and embraces them

Promising to embrace me
taking my heart
to a place safe and warm

Protected by your maleness
never tiring of my sight

Oh sweet one
that is where I would be
if only I could choose.

SORRY

Like a turtle out of it’s shell
I am naked before you

Leaving me
vulnerable

I swallow my heart
not knowing how to start

talking to you

I become a tongue tied
teenager

With her first beau

I say stupid things
some days

On paper
 in
 emails

Leaving a trail of my
weakness

For you to follow

With no clear directions

Not fair I know

All I can say is
I am
sorry

BLOOD RUNS THICK

Family

ever so dear
ever so near

They reach out their
imperfect hearts

Trying to connect

Standing there with nothing
to say sometimes...

No matter

Blood runs thick
forgiveness
always in the air

a picnic
a barbecue
a day on the beach

Moments together
fill life
with purpose
with belonging

Family perfect
in it’s imperfection

Like glue
we stick together

Keeping each other
safe
from what life can throw

Such comfort to know

We will always have

Family

POETRY

Poetry is the language of lovers
who see life richly

Nothing is small
nothing is slight

From the sunniest day
to the darkest night

Emotions stir
from the depths
of their souls

Exposing to the world
how deep our existence

Stopping the special
and holding it in the air

Sending it out for
everyone to share

It is an art
not always appreciated
nor understood

But those who catch
it’s beauty

Are richer
indeed

KEEP UP THE FIGHT

Don't stand alone in your pain
out in the rain

Go to others
allow them to
bring cover

Keeping you dry

Yes not all will do so
some will add to the shower
pouring salt in your wound

Run run from those
to another

Don't give up
for what is the alternative?

being alone in the darkness
no hope for light...

Have faith my friend
until the end

When it is time
to shut off the light

Until then
keep up the good fight

NO MONEY ON THE TABLE

A little more country...I actually made a tune to go with this so my first little simple song.

No money on the table
just my broken heart

Should have seen it coming
right from the start

You say that you love me
I'll have to disagree

No money on the table
just a broken heart for me

You knock on my door
I let you in

You leave in the morning
without any warning

No sweet good bye
just an empty bed

Leaving me to cry
till my eyes are fiery red

No money on the table
just my broken heart

Should have seen it coming
right from the start

You say that you love me
I'll have to disagree

No money on the table
just a broken heart for me

Next time you knock
I won't be here

Not cuz I don't
love you dear

Just can't take the pain
you hurt me so

Leaving me to feel
like I really need to go

No money on the table
just my broken heart

Should have seen it coming
right from the start

As much as I love you
it's time for us to part

No money on the table
just my broken heart.

SUCKER FOR SWEET TALK

I'm a sucker for sweet talk
works every time

Can't seem to accept
you're just feeding me a line

Your eyes lie so easily
mine are easily fooled

I'm just a token for your belt
just a toy for your bed

Should not have listened
to anything you said.

TO THE ONE

I have been married
yet not had a husband

For a husband protects his wife
she becomes his life
his blood
his body

To cut her off
is to cut off his own arm

To harm her
is to harm himself

Marriage is a union
of two souls

There is no division
of a true marriage

It can only be divided
by death

So again I say to you

I have been married
yet not had a husband

O what a glory it would be
to find true marriage
with thee.
